[Presentation of idea]

The stone church is built in 1765 – 1766. From this period are dated first wooden a sculptures too.
Later, the church was renovated several times in 1875 altar was rebuild and Church got a new organ. In 1926 church interior was repainted. These changes have affected the look of the church interior.
After World War 2 in 1967 church was closed and interior was destroyed.  In the beginning the church building was used for storage, but later as stained-glass workshop.

Only in 1989 church reopens and renovation work has begun.

From Biķernieku church were preserved several wooden sculptures, which will be reconstructed as part of my research project.

About sculptor – in documents we can read master’s Karl Gottlob Appelbaum (from Radeburg) name, who designed the altar. But in this period K. G. Appelbaum was working in several churches in Riga city together with sculptor Jakob Ernst Meyer (from Danzig) – so most likely Meyer is the author of the wooden sculptures.
